Founder, Chief Executive Officer and President

Michael R. Settles, through his leadership and direction, has cultivated the remarkable growth of his Contract R&D Laboratory located just outside of Boston, MA over the past ten years. Initially offering only basic laboratory support in 1996, today TGA Sciences, Inc. offers a fully integrated CRO with GLP/cGMP capabilities, animal studies and FDA compliant clinical trial support available to both national and international markets. A respected member of the CEO Roundtable of Andover, MA, Biotechnology Division, Mr. Settles has more than 20 years of experience working in the Biotechnology sector. Preceding TGA Sciences, Inc., from 1992 to 1998, Mr. Settles was with ImmuLogic Pharmaceutical Corporation serving as an integral part of the Product Development Department for the company’s AllerVax pipeline. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Settles was employed by T-Cell Diagnostics, Inc. as a Senior Associate Scientist and was involved with the development, validation and product launches of Immunoassay kits. Prior to that, Mr. Settles was employed by the New England Medical Center and Damon Biotech, Inc. serving in various supervisory roles in the Hematology/ Oncology department and manufacturing laboratories, respectively. Director, Quality Assurance

Ms. Settles directs all quality assurance activities including document management, internal and external auditing, management of quality systems and training of employees. In addition, she coordinates client projects, evaluates project needs, provides consultation, creates standard operating procedures and serves as the IACUC Chairman. Ms. Settles has been with TGA since 1999, beginning in a technical role developing and validating client assays. Prior to coming to TGA, she held R&D positions with Antigenics and Scriptgen Pharmaceuticals, gaining extensive experience in immunoassay development, protein characterization and small molecule screening. Ms. Settles holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.Jill can be reached at jsettles@tgasciences.com


Lisa Greenleaf
Bioanalytical Group Leader

Ms. Greenleaf is responsible for immunoassay development and validation projects (GLP and cGMP), preparing technical reports, data summaries and quantitative analysis. She leads a team of associate scientists developing immunoassays for clients’ requirements and assumes responsibility for projects, which includes client interaction and project organization. Ms. Greenleaf has worked for Scriptgen Pharamceuticals, Inc. and Phylos and holds a Bs.c. in Biochemistry from Northeastern University in Boston, Ma.Lisa can be reached at lgreenleaf@tgasciences.com


Sandra Ayers, MA, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Sandra Ayres MA, DVM is a 1993 graduate of Tufts Veterinary School. Dr Ayres’s areas of expertise are broad. She is an assistant professor at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine teaching anatomy and small ruminant reproduction. Her research expertise is in the areas of small ruminant reproduction, transgenics, and surgery, and rodent and rabbit experimental models. She has been an attending veterinarian for research facilities since 1994 and is boarded by the American College of Theriogenologists.

Research Associate

Ms. Haven is responsible for performing immunoassays, FACS analysis and other immunological analysis. She is instrumental in designing experimental methods for client projects, which also includes presentation of these analysis as well as vast client interaction. She prepares technical reports and data summaries in support of development and validation projects. Ms. Haven was previously employed at Santa Cruz Biotechnology and received her B.A. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara.Babette can be reached at bhaven@tgasciences.com

Research Associate

Ms. Patterson is responsible for performing immunoassays, western blots and other bioanalytical techniques. She prepares technical reports and data summaries in support of developmental and validation projects in both GLP and cGMP methodology. She also is involved in various animal studies. Corporate Operations Director

Mr. Collins responsibilities are in support of facility operations that contribute to client driven projects.  He oversees, manages and schedules the animal facility activities; is the main contact for all facility registrations, licenses and procedures (IACUC Chairman, contact person for USDA and AAALAC); and also represents the company at industry meetings as well as performing business development.  David Collins can be reached at dcollins@tgasciences.com.


SamanthaSamantha D’Ortona
Research Associate

Ms. D’Ortona is responsible for maintaining mouse colonies, performing IP, IM and IV injections, performing immunoassays, western blots, tissue culture and other bioanalytical techniques.   She performs sample analysis for R&D studies and prepares data summaries and progress reports in support of client’s studies.  She contributes to the general maintenance of the animal facility and the general laboratory by assisting in preparing reagents, tracking samples and maintaining equipment.   Ms. D’Ortona worked previously for 4 years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA and holds a B.Sc. from Salem State University.  Samantha can be reached at sdortona@tgasciences.com.


Denise McSweeneyDenise McSweeney
Research Associate

Ms. McSweeney is responsible for performing immunoassays, western blots, tissue culture and other bioanalytical techniques.  She performs sample analysis for R&D studies as well as cGMP and GLP studies and prepares data summaries and progress and final reports to various clients. She assists with the preparation and distribution of client sample collection kits and also contributes to the general maintenance of the bioanalytical laboratory by preparing reagents, sample tracking and various other duties.  Ms. McSweeney spent 13 years at Arqule, Inc. and has a B.Sc. from  Boston University.  Denise can be reached at dmcsweeney@tgasciences.com


Ylsa HenryYlsa (Alex) Henry
Animal Care Technician

Ms. Henry is responsible for the general maintenance of the animal facility including receiving animals, husbandry, animal procedures, interacting with clients on specific protocols and studies, breeding and maintaining colonies.  Ms. Henry previously worked for Charles River Labs for 5 years and attended Colegio Santo Tomas de Aquino in La Vega, Dominican Republic.  Alex can be reached at ahenry@tgasciences.com


Wajih YazbekWajih Yazbek
Research Assistant

Mr. Yazbek is responsible for performing immunoassays, western blots and other bioanalytical techniques.  He assists with the preparation and distribution of client sample collection kits, interacting with the various clinical sites and also receiving and tracking clinical samples and shipments.  He also contributes to the general maintenance of the bioanalytical laboratory by preparaing reagents, washing glassware, sample logging/tracking, ordering supplies and monitoring equipment performance and temperature logs.  Mr. Yazbek was previously with Progenika Biopharma, Inc. and holds a B.Sc. in Biology/Biotechnology from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.  He can be reached at wyazbek@tgasciences.com

Research Associate

Ms. Estabrooks is responsible for performing cell based assay protocols, western blots, tissue culture and other bioanalytical techniques.  She also performs basic R&D studies for clients, prepares data summaries and progress and final reports.  She contributes to the general maintenance of the tissue culture facility by preparing reagents, tracking samples and maintaining equipment.  Ms. Estabrooks graduated from  Northeastern University, Boston, MA with a B.Sc. in Biology and has previously been employed by Sanofi Pasteur and MGH.  Zoe can be reached at zestabrooks@tgasciences.com.


Irina Foster
Research Assistant

Ms. Foster is responsible for performing immunoassays, western blots and other bioanalytical techniques.  She assists with receiving and tracking clinical samples and shipments and also contributes to the general maintenance of the bioanalytical laboratory by preparing reagents, washing glassware, sample logging/tracking, ordering supplies and monitoring equipment performance and temperature logs.  Ms. Foster was previously employed by several companies and Universities and holds a Masters in Biology and Ecology from Yaroslavl University in Russia. Arianna Nitzel
Research Associate

Ms. Nitzel is responsible for performing cell based assay protocols, western blots, tissue culture and other bioanalytical techniques.  She also performs basic R&D studies for clients, prepares data summaries and progress and final reports.  She contributes to the general maintenance of the tissue culture facility by preparing reagents, tracking samples and maintaining equipment.  Ms. Nitzel graduated from  Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and has previously been employed by Brigham and Womens’ Hospital and also completed an internship at Nemucore Medical Innovations in Worcester, MA.  Ms. Nitzel can be reached at anitzel@tgasciences.com.


Alicia Villett
Research Assistant

Ms. Villett is responsible for performing both R&D and GLP/cGMP immunoassays, western blots and other bioanalytical techniques.  She assists with receiving and tracking clinical samples and shipments and also contributes to the general maintenance of the bioanalytical laboratory by preparing reagents, washing glassware, sample logging/tracking, ordering supplies and monitoring equipment performance and temperature logs.  Ms. Villett was an intern at Cell Signaling Technology and Universities and holds a BA in Biology from Suffolk University. Grace Trombley
Research Assistant

Ms. Trombley is responsible for performing cell based assay protocols, western blots, tissue culture and other bioanalytical techniques.  She also performs basic R&D studies for clients, prepares data summaries and progress and final reports.  She contributes to the general maintenance of the tissue culture facility by preparing reagents, tracking samples and maintaining equipment.  Ms. Trombley graduated from UMASS Amherst with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and also has earned a Master of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UMASS Amherst.  She previously has been employed as a Research Assistant in various departments at UMASS Amherst.   Ms. Trombley can be reached at gtrombley@tgasciences.com.


In Memoriam:

Susan Patti passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2015.  Susan worked at TGA Sciences, Inc. for 16 years and joined the company when it was in it’s infancy.  Her experience and work ethic throughout the years helped to shape and form the company it is today.  She will be missed and always in our thoughts.

Office Manager

Mrs. Patti is responsible for the financial organization of TGA Sciences, including A/P, A/R and Cash Flow Management; in addition, she manages our Payroll, HR and Benefits Administration. She also supports the CEO regarding federal & state permits or licenses, tax regulation and commercial leases, as well as a variety of special projects. Mrs. Patti is certified in Business Accounting and is an alumnus of Bentley College’s Executive and Professional Education Program in Waltham, MA.
