Michael R. Settles
Founder, Chief Executive Officer and President

Michael R. Settles, through his leadership and direction, has cultivated the remarkable growth of his Contract R&D Laboratory located just outside of Boston, MA over the past ten years.  Initially offering only basic laboratory support in 1996, today TGA Sciences, Inc. offers a fully integrated CRO with GLP/cGMP capabilities, animal studies and FDA compliant clinical trial support available to both national and international markets.  A respected member of the CEO Roundtable of Andover, MA, Biotechnology Division, Mr. Settles has more than 20 years of experience working in the Biotechnology sector. Preceding TGA Sciences, Inc., from 1992 to 1998, Mr. Settles was with ImmuLogic Pharmaceutical Corporation serving as an integral part of the Product Development Department for the company’s AllerVax pipeline.  From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Settles was employed by T-Cell Diagnostics, Inc. as a Senior Associate Scientist and was involved with the development, validation and product launches of Immunoassay kits.  Prior to that, Mr. Settles was employed by the New England Medical Center and Damon Biotech, Inc. serving in various supervisory roles in the Hematology/ Oncology department and manufacturing laboratories, respectively. A New Jersey native, Mr. Settles earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Salem State College in Salem, Massachusetts.

Scott J. Orphanos
Vice President of Business Development

Scott Orphanos is Vice President of Business Development at TGA Sciences, Inc.  He is a life sciences industry veteran with over fifteen years of experience in pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology sectors including building, training and mentoring sales teams, developing and implementing marketing strategies, national account management, contract negotiations, market research and analysis and establishing new business from start-up phase.  Mr. Orphanos began his life sciences career at Hoffman La-Roche in the early 90's.  He subsequently held sales positions at Bausch & Lomb and at Biocompatibles, a medical technology company where he held several positions in increasing responsibility eventually serving at Business Team Leader for the eastern U.S.  From 2003 to 2008 he served as Executive Director, Business Development at Bio-Concept, a contract manufacturing organization specializing in opthalmic product development services.  Mr. Orphanos earned his B.S. degree in Business Administration from the Whittemore School of Business & Economics at the University of New Hampshire.

Jill E. Settles
Director, Quality Assurance

Ms. Settles directs all quality assurance activities including document management, internal and external auditing, management of quality systems and training of employees.  In addition, she coordinates client projects, evaluates project needs, provides consultation, creates standard operating procedures and serves as the IACUC Chairman.  Ms. Settles has been with TGA since 1999, beginning in a technical role developing and validating client assays.  Prior to coming to TGA, she held R&D positions with Antigenics and Scriptgen Pharmaceuticals, gaining extensive experience in immunoassay development, protein characterization and small molecule screening.   Ms. Settles holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

 Lisa Greenleaf
Bioanalytical Group Leader

Ms. Greenleaf is responsible for immunoassay development and validation projects (GLP and cGMP), preparing technical reports, data summaries and quantitative analysis.  She leads a team of associate scientists developing immunoassays for clients’ requirements and assumes responsibility for projects, which includes client interaction and project organization.  Ms. Greenleaf has worked for Scriptgen Pharamceuticals, Inc. and Phylos and holds a Bs.c. in Biochemistry from Northeastern University in Boston, Ma.

Susan Patti
Office Manager

Mrs. Patti is responsible for the financial organization of TGA Sciences, including A/P, A/R and Cash Flow Management; in addition, she manages our Payroll, HR and Benefits Administration.  She also supports the CEO regarding federal & state permits or licenses, tax regulation and commercial leases, as well as a variety of special projects.  Mrs. Patti is certified in Business Accounting and is an alumnus of Bentley College’s Executive and Professional Education Program in Waltham, MA.

 Sandra Ayers, MA, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Sandra Ayres MA, DVM is a 1993 graduate of TuftsVeterinarySchool.  Dr Ayres’s areas of expertise are broad. She is an assistant professor at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine teaching anatomy and small ruminant reproduction. Her research expertise is in the areas of small ruminant reproduction, transgenics, and surgery, and rodent and rabbit experimental models. She has been an attending veterinarian for research facilities since 1994 and is boarded by the AmericanCollege of Theriogenologists.  


 
Babette Haven
Research Associate

Ms. Haven is responsible for performing immunoassays, FACS analysis and other immunological analysis.  She is instrumental in designing experimental methods for client projects, which also includes presentation of these analysis as well as vast client interaction.   She prepares technical reports and data summaries in support of development and validation projects.  Ms. Haven was previously employed at Santa Cruz Biotechnology and received her B.A. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Kate Patterson
Research Associate

Ms. Patterson is responsible for performing immunoassays, western blots and other bioanalytical techniques.  She prepares technical reports and data summaries in support of developmental and validation projects in both GLP and cGMP methodology.  She also is involved in various animal studies.  Ms. Patterson holds a Bs.c. in Animal Science from UMASS, Amherst.

David Collins
Facilities Assistant / Animal Technician

Mr. Collins is responsible for the general laboratory and facility maintenance, purchasing, equipment management and inventory, providing courier service to our clients and most recently has been training to attain animal certification as a laboratory technician in the TGA Sciences, Inc. animal facility.  He is also in integral member of the IACUC committee and monitors the sentinel program and interacts with the MIT Comparative Laboratory for this purpose.

Lauren Prock
Research Associate

Ms. Prock is responsible for performing immunoassays in both GLP and cGMP formats, western blots and other bioanalytical techniques.  She prepares data summaries and generates the sample collection kits that TGA Sciences, Inc. supplies to its clients for sample collection and processing.  Ms. Prock is also responsible for generating collection methods specific to clients’ requirements.  She holds a B.A. in Biology from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY.

Evelyn Argueta
Animal Technician

Ms. Argueta is responsible for the daily husbandry, care and maintenance of colonies of research rodents (mice, rats and guinea pigs) according to company standard operating procedures, IACUC guidelines and PHS policy.  She maintains facility records, performs animal related procedures in addition to maintaining a rodent breeding program.  She also assists with the generation of protocols, serves on the IACUC committee and represents the company during USDA and AAALAC inspections.  Ms. Argueta previously has been employed with PharmaMar USA, Inc. and Biogen Idec, Inc.

Amy LaCroix
Research Associate

Ms. LaCroix is responsible for the performance of GLP and cGMP immunoassays and other bioanalytical techniques.  She assists with the preparation and distribution of client sample collection kits and assists in the performance of R&D studies.   Ms. LaCroix has previously been employed by the Cambridge Water department and DYAX Corp.  She holds a Bs.c. in Biology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.

William Pecoroni
Research Associate

Mr. Pecoroni is responsible for the general maintanance of the bioanalytical laboratory, the preparation and distribution of clinical materials to clinical sites and the performance of GLP and cGMP immunoassays and other bioanalytical techniques, as well as cell based assays.   Mr. Pecoroni has previously been employed by Poland Springs and Lonza Biologics.  He holds a Bs.c. in Biology from University of Massachusetts in Lowell, MA.
